KTM 550's were quite possibly the worlds fastest dirtbikes ever built. Expert only horsepower, these bikes were built to out-perform CR500's and KX500's. This is the very rare MX-C (MotoCross Competion) version. KTM built 2 other versions as well: the DXC's (desert) and EXC's (enduro).
Note that the frame has almost no boot wear at down cradle 'V' areas above footpegs. Engine appears to have been untouched and is all stock. All wear indicators tell me that this is a very low mileage and mostly all original bike.
Motor starts easy and runs excellent. Marzocchi 45mm conventional forks and Ohlins single shock rear suspension were a hard combination to beat back in those days. Brembo disc brakes, and Talon hubs; Nothing but the best was utilized by the Austrian factory in order to take on the big-4 Japanese factories, and they succeeded. Today, KTM-Husqvarna builds some of the best competition dirt motorcycles on the planet.
Has a ding in left side of orig. expansion chamber pipe (see photos). Shroud graphics are incorrect, but still look good and will need further trimming for proper airflow through radiators. Front & side number plate graphics are from earlier KTM MX bikes and are NOS items.
INCLUDES A NEW, CORRECT SEAT COVER (not shown) to replace the torn original.
You gotta' love KTM. They built their bikes with a 'no cost spared' mentality, as only the finest and most expensive components were used.
KTM engines were considered some of the fastest 2-stroke engines ever built for their classes.
