FAIENCE MANUFACTURING COMPANY (FMC) AMERICAN ART POTTERY EDWARD LYCETT NEW YORK

This is an exquisite early American art pottery piece to add to your collection.  This vase originates from the 1880s. The Faience Manufacturing Company (1881-1892) was an important, if short- lived, art pottery maker in New York City. It owed its artistic and commercial success to Edward Lycett, an English china painter who became its art director in 1884, having successfully practiced his craft after immigrating to New York City in 1861. FMC produced ornamental white-bodied earthenware in its Greenpoint, Brooklyn, factory. It was sold in Veit and Nelson's showroom at 557 and 559 Broadway. Fashionable French faience and Limoges wares,
which were much admired at the United States Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876, undoubtedly inspired the name of the company and served as models for the firm's early wares. This vase is marked on the base: "FMCo" , "232" and I believe an "I". Just over 8 1/2” high and about 8" wide. There are a couple chips at the base, glaze flakes, and several nicks and chips on the leaves/flowers as pictured although it is difficult to distinguish if it is the paint style and form of piece or if they are actual issues with the piece.  For it's age it is in amazing condition.
